The Hoge Wier for War Child.

Clipper the Hoge Wier has closed the season 2007 with an impressive number of victories. The competitive team has contributed this season to War Child. All season long, they have collected and advertized for this foundation. And with success: the Hoge Wier expects to make over 8000 euros to the foundation.

The crew has drawn the attention of their guests that sailed the Hoge Wier last season, to War Child. This sometimes even resulted in new actions. A group of teachers decided during their team outing to start a War Child action on their school as well.

The crew looks back on a very successful year. All matches but one, in which a second position was scooped, have been closed with a number one position. “Sailmaker Molenaar’s new sails have proved to be a success”, says Sacha Emmerik, skipper and owner of the Hoge Wier. “We always were fanatical, competitive sailors, but to win that first prize in the Clipper race we were so desirous of, something needed to be done.” Emmerik typifies the Clipper race as the Dutch Championchips for clippers. “We came into contact with sailmaker Molenaar and they proposed to create a main sail with horizontal strips, something that is highly unusual in the charter business. I was excited about the plan from the very beginning and with those foresails of a laminate fabric, we prove to be unbeatable in light weather.”

Both the sailmaker and War Child are very enthusiastic about their cooperation. The many victories of last season have resulted in a lot of publicity. The final score is not disclosed yet, but the crew of the Hoge Wier expects to have raised over 8000 euros for War Child.
