the Hoge Wier competes in the large sailing matches for traditional sailing boats. These matches are
spectacular events on the Markermeer, IJsselmeer and Wadden Sea.
Below you will find some examples of the races the Hoge Wier will compete in this season:

Pieperrace [Spud race] in Volendam
The “Volendammer hardzeildagen”
During the winter of starvation in World War II, the skippers of the Volendam fishermen’s fleet did not sail fish, but spuds from Friesland to the
West in order to feed the hungry people. This match is organized in memoriam of this time. On both Saturday and Sunday a match is sailed. During the
evening, the cosy cafés in the harbour are a nice place to be. An event in which many clippers, tjalks, barges, and smacks compete annually. More

Last year we were 1th, this year ...?
The most important race for clippers on the IJsselmeer. Over fifty clippers start this match annually. On Saturday a so-called 3-city race is
sailed, on Sunday an Olympic match is sailed. The Hoge Wier has climbed the charts over the past few years, and is therefore now competing
among the fastest clippers of Holland. Sailing is a top-class sport! An event that is a real crowd puller, not in the least because of its
spectacular opening on Saturday with over fifty clippers starting the race!
